Rivet

Getting started

Open a car

  1. Start Rivet. The home screen shows the files you opened recently: click one to open it again.
  2. Or click Open (Ctrl+O) and pick a .yft (a GTA V vehicle) or a .z3d (a ZModeler 3 scene). You can also drag a file onto the window.
  3. To bring in a car from the game itself, use the Vehicle Library (top right): pick a car and open it.

Rivet's file browser has a path bar you can paste any folder or file into, recent folders down the side, and thumbnails of the models in a folder.

The window

  • Top bar: menus, Import / Export, Undo / Redo, the workspace tabs (Create, Modify, Select, Display, Surface, Rigging, Vehicle, Interface), command search, and the Vehicle Library, Parts Library and Settings.
  • Tool header (under the tabs): the editing level (Object / Vertex / Edge / Polygon), how you select, the axes (X Y Z) the tools work along, and the Materials, Textures and UV Editor windows.
  • Tool shelf (left): the tools in sections. Hover a tool to see what it does.
  • Four views: Right, Front, Top and User (3D). Double-click a view's header, or press Z over it, to maximise it.
  • Scene Nodes (right): the tree of the car's parts, with Properties above it.
  • Status bar: what each mouse button does right now, the latest hint, and the model's size.

Finding commands

Press Ctrl+Space and type part of a command's name, then Enter. It searches every menu, button and shortcut.

Saving your work

  • File > Save (Ctrl+S) writes a .z3d (a ZModeler 3 scene), with everything Rivet knows about the model. A model opened from a .yft asks where to save the .z3d the first time.
  • File > Save As (Ctrl+Shift+S) saves a copy under a new name.
  • Rivet autosaves a copy every 5 minutes while you have unsaved changes (never over your file). The home screen offers them back after a crash.
  • To use the car in the game, export it: see Exporting.

Every edit is undoable: Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+Y redo.
