Rivet

Simple Rivet

Add parts to a car as extras and make a FiveM car, without knowing anything about 3D. Simple Rivet looks like Rivet with most of the tools taken away: what's left is what you need to put a light bar, push bar, spoiler or roof rack on a car, make it bulletproof, paint it, and export it for your server.

Open it

The home screen's Simple Rivet button (under Ped Creator). It opens in a window of its own; the normal Rivet window is not changed. A shortcut can open it directly: Rivet.exe --simple (add a .yft or .z3d path to open that car straight away).

What's an extra?

An extra is a part players can switch on and off in game, like the light bar on a police car. GTA calls them extra_1 to extra_14. Your server's extras menu (or SetVehicleExtra in a script) turns them on and off.

Make a car, start to finish

  1. Pick a car. Tools > GTA car shows every car in your game (it needs your GTA V folder): double-click one. Or Car file opens a .yft or .z3d you have. Rivet works on a copy; your files are never changed.
  2. Add an extra. Tools > From library opens the Parts Library with every part from GTA's cars. Search (for example "lightbar", "bullbar", "spoiler") and double-click a part. It's added as the next free extra and shows up in the Extras list on the right. From file adds a model you have (.yft, .ydr, .z3d, .fbx, .obj ...).
  3. Put it in place. With Move (W) on, drag the extra anywhere with the mouse. On surface is on to start with, so it slides along the car's body and leans with it. Drag one of the arrows to move it along one line only. Rotate (E) turns it; Scale (R) makes it bigger or smaller (drag the middle for all of it, a handle to stretch one way). In the Extras panel, the arrow buttons, Turn and Size (Smaller, Bigger, or type a %) fine-tune the selected extra.
  4. Extra settings (Extras panel): Number changes which extra it is (two extras swap numbers). Always on when the car spawns makes the game never leave it off (extra_1 to extra_13).
  5. Bulletproof (Car setup): bulletproof glass, tyres that can't be shot flat, and an armour upgrade.
  6. Paint: the colours the car spawns with. The 3D view shows the main colour.
  7. Livery (optional): Livery in Tools opens the Livery Mapper, which lays the car's panels out on a sheet and saves it as a picture. Paint your design on that picture in any paint program, then Car > Use my livery picture.
  8. Check: lists anything that would stop the car working, in plain words, with Fix it for me where Rivet can.
  9. FiveM (Export): type the name players see and the spawn name, pick a folder and press Export.

Put it on your server

  1. Copy the folder Rivet made (it has the spawn name) into your server's resources folder.
  2. Add ensure <spawn name> to server.cfg.
  3. Restart the server and spawn the car by its spawn name.

Things to know

  • Click only extras. A click on the car itself selects nothing: in Simple Rivet only extras can be moved.
  • Undo is Ctrl+Z (Edit > Undo), redo Ctrl+Y. F frames the selected extra (or the car).
  • Spawn names are lower case letters, numbers and _, start with a letter, 11 characters at most, and can't be a GTA car's name (yours would replace it).
  • Sizes. Resizing changes the extra's shape itself, because GTA can't scale a part in game.
  • Bulletproof glass sets the windows' collision to GTA's bulletproof glass (CAR_GLASS_BULLETPROOF) and adds FLAG_HAS_BULLETPROOF_GLASS. Tyres and armour need the small client.lua script Rivet adds to the resource: GTA has no file setting for bulletproof tyres, and armour is the car's own armour upgrade (armour1 to armour5).
